Nurse Practitioner – Outpatient BMT

Job Description:

The Cancer Center at The University of Kansas Hospital is nationally known for innovative and compassionate cancer care. We currently have an opening for a Nurse Practitioner in our Cancer Center.

Responsibilities: 

* Performs comprehensive assessment of selected patients/families with complex care needs.

* Addresses issues at the point of care. 

* Coordinates the technical competency of staff nurses and medical residents and maintains specialty validations/certifications. 

* Facilitates desired patient and organizational outcomes through consultation and collaboration.

Job Requirements:

* Master's Degree in Nursing. 

* Kansas ARNP license. 

* 3-5 years of clinical experience in the speciality area. 

* ANCC certification from a Nurse Practitioner program. 

* Needs to obtain privileges through medical staff office within first 6 months of employment. 

* Must have an American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

 

Unit Coordinator – Cancer Center Treatment

Responsibilities: 

* Coordinates daily staffing needs on unit and re-evaluates staffing with changes in unit work flow. 

* Makes patient care assignments based upon nurse competencies and patient care needs. 

* Assists staff with patient care issues. 

* Facilitates seamless transition of patients in the admit/transfer/discharge process. 

* Provides education to the patients and families regarding disease and treatment plan. 

* Contributes to the orientation, education, and evaluation of staff. 

* Keeps manager informed of department or patient care problems or needs.

Job Requirements:

*Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. 

* 2 years clinical experience is desirable. 

* Current Kansas RN license. 

* Must have an American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Transplant Nurse Coordinator – Outpatient BMT

We currently have an opening for a Nurse Coordinator in the Outpatient BMT Unit located at our Westwood Campus Cancer Center.


Responsibilities: 

* Coordinates pre-transplant patient verification and evaluations. 

* Conducts follow-up for post-transplant (inpatient and outpatient) recipients. 

* Provides education on transplantation to patient, family members, community, and other co-workers. 

* Works with transplant physician and surgeon in the development of standards and protocols.

Job Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Nursing. 

* 5 years experience in acute care nursing. 

* Organ transplantation or procurement experience is preferred. 

* Current Kansas RN license * Must have an American Heart Association basic life support or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

 

Oncology RN – Radiation

Job Description:

We currently have an opening for an Radiation Oncology Nurse.
 

Responsibilities: 

* Assesses patient status utilizing physical assessments, laboratory and diagnostic results, and a patient interview to provide patient care. 

* Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV Therapy. 

* Manages care based on knowledge of cancer, treatment and side effects. 

* Provides education to the patient and family regarding disease and treatment plan.

Job Requirements:

* Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing. Bachelor's degree is preferred. 

* Kansas RN license 

* 2 years of oncology experience with IV Therapy skills. 

* OCN certification within one year of employment. 

* Must have an American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

 

Clinical Nurse Coordinator – Cancer Center Exam

Job Description:

We currently have an opening for a Clinical Nurse Coordinator in our Cancer Center. 

Responsibilities: 

* Directs activities of assigned physician clinics.

* Triages patient calls and coordinates appropriate care.

* Provides complex health assessments of patients outside clinic time.

* Educates patients and caregivers about cancer treatments and disease processes.

* Reviews laboratory results and diagnostic imaging and implements follow-up plans.

* Works with Inpatient Care Coordinator with transition of patient from inpatient to outpatient and vice versa.

* Participates in orientation of new staff members and graduate/undergraduate nursing students.

* Collaborates with research staff members in planning and implementing care of patients involved in clinical trials.

* Reviews new treatments and technologies that affect oncology nursing practice and disseminates information to other staff members.

Job Requirements:

* Associate's degree in Nursing is required.  Bachelor's degree is preferred. 

* Current Kansas RN license or eligible.  

* 3 years clinical oncology/hematology experience

New Patient Clinical Coordinator - Cancer Center

We currently have an opening for a New Patient Clinical Coordinator-Cancer Center. Responsibilities: 

* Coordinates the scheduling of new patients for medical oncology and hematology and other areas as assigned 

* Provides scheduling triage including speaking with medical offices and patients to determine needs/requests, reading pathology reports, labs and other medical records 

* Schedules new patients on daily basis for each assigned department 

* Coordinates the Second Opinion Service for the outpatient Cancer Center 

* Recognizes care activities/procedures which need to be shared among disciplines to maximize patient
centered, efficient care. 

* Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to all communication methods 

* Serve as a contact person for the Cancer Center Schedulers by providing assistance and/or on-the-job training. 

* Communicates with departments and primary care health centers for accurate and efficient scheduling and other requests. Works closely with nursing staff, physicians, admitting staff and the finance department and other clinical personnel. 

* Assures medical records and insurance referrals are sent to the appropriate clinic contacts in a timely manner.

 * Completes callbacks, provides follow-up materials

, prepares written correspondence, generates faxes and electronic messages with accuracy, attention to detail and in a secure manner. 

* Serves as liaison between the general calling public and all University of Kansas Hospital clinical professionals and staff. 

* Assists the Clinical Scheduling Coordinator with daily function and operations of Cancer Center Scheduling Hospital

Job Requirements:

* Associate's Degree in Nursing is required, Bachelor's degree is preferred

* Minimum two years nursing experience (oncology preferred)

 

* Kansas Registered Nurse license or eligible. 

* American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) or an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification preferred

* Computer Skills: above average skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access. Ability to learn proprietary scheduling software.

 

* Interpersonal Communication

 

* Supervisory experience a plus
